THEY THREW MY FAVORITE NIGHTCLUB IN THE TRASH – LITERALLY

It was one of those boring mornings that would be quickly forgotten if it wasn’t for horrible news – the cult Zagreb nightclub Sidro is being demolished.

News spread like fire. People were in disbelief, it seemed so strange that the place that has always been there for us is no more.

It wasn’t really your regular nightclub – it was a boat on the bank of river Sava turned into a bar. It was one of those places that worked when everything else was closed, from dusk till dawn and more. That’s why shock was so great – how could they shut down the place that never shuts down?

But reality is often harsh, and for some legal reasons the place was closed and torn apart piece by piece. Farewells spread across the social networks, it was like a funeral – generations of guests felt the need to say the last goodbye to the place that was so special to them. There was even some sort of commemoration on the spot – one could really tell how special this place was.

This place attracted all kinds of humans. There was no discrimination, everyone was welcome, one could wear a suit or a tracksuit. It kind of reminded me of Noah’s Ark – it was a boat of salvation.

Noah’s story goes something like this: people became total douchebags and God couldn’t watch that anymore, so he decided to punish them with a good old natural disaster – a flood. But God told Noah to create a vessel that will accommodate representatives of all species so the life on Earth could continue.

In case of Zagreb’s nightlife, the natural disaster is the last call which, for most places, occurs at 4 or 5 am. If you wanted to party more, Sidro was the place to go. Different species would then enter this boat of salvation so that nightlife in Zagreb could continue.

Probably the saddest part of this story is that future generations will never get to experience this unique place. Therefore, the mission of us, veterans of Sidro, is to keep the memory alive through stories and recollections. Sidro forever!
